Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown With Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the World Series in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden championship series since 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the ALCS.
Behind 3-1, the star outfielder smashed a three-run home run in the seventh inning, propelling the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the defending champions, the team that is the current crown, in the anticipated World Series.
"It's incredible for everyone here, Toronto, our country," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "It's truly an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now connected for twenty-three post-season home runs, placing him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another person in the world that I want up in that spot other than George Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted Schneider.
The Mariners, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a World Series.
Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's painful" following his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but praised their performance throughout the year.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he continued.
Toronto's team claimed the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
