Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
