The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few key changes:
- Each team has only eight real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for players looking for different ways to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another details all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
