The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
