The Reform UK leader Claims Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Racial Topics
The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a Reform UK election victory, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by instructing students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, Farage outlined his perspective on the UK education system, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I’m anticipating a teachers’ strike very quickly after securing a victory,” he remarked during a Q&A session.
“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They create division, not uniting us. They promote this negative culture.”
Reacting to these assertions, the head of a major education union dismissed the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. He pointed out that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his public life on dog-whistle politics and now, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a conflict,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
The party, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, his comments suggested the group would reform the system and the curriculum. He said: “We have got a massive job with education – absolutely herculean. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Paying tribute to a conservative activist, Farage said: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to instruct people that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves rather than what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused the union head with being “an avowed radical” … someone who is absolutely determined that our children should be poisoned through education, their thinking tainted regarding national issues” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Almost one million people work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.
National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 led to significant interruptions in schools and millions of days of lost learning for children.
At the US event, Farage also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He said such groups were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I am serious. I’ll assist garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to these educational programs. I pledge this tonight and I’ll do that.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, provides complimentary classes. Its website states: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. The college furnishes these excellent programs for free to every interested learner.”
